Welcome to the Swallowing Research Laboratory

The Swallowing Research Laboratory at the University of Florida focuses on investigations into swallowing processes, swallowing impairment, and treatment for swallowing difficulties in patients with a wide range of disorders including Stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, Head & Neck cancer, traumatic brain injury and many others.

The lab is headquartered in the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Florida Health Science Center with research partners at the Neuroscience Institute at Shands Jacksonville and Brooks Rehabilitation Research Center in Jacksonville. The multidisciplinary approach at the SRL brings together top researchers from multiple fields.

The Lab activities focus on core areas in swallowing research whose contributions are critical for advances in health management. Researchers address key issues that span the entire spectrum, from understanding normal swallowing processes to designing novel methods of rehabilitation, in a manner that emphasizes both theoretical and applied research to bring to fruition new concepts, techniques, and applications.
